What this checker looks at

Keyword coverage. We pull the skills, tools and phrases the posting repeats and check whether your resume uses them. Recruiters search applicant tracking systems with these terms, so a missing one can hide an otherwise good resume.

Requirement-by-requirement fit. Keywords alone can be gamed and can miss real experience written in different words. The fit score reads each must-have and grades the evidence in your resume for it, the same way Matchlight scores every job for its users. You get green (apply now), yellow (read closely) or red (stretch).

How to raise your score honestly

  • Use the posting's own words for skills you really have, such as "A/B testing" instead of only "experiments".
  • Put evidence next to each claim: what you built, the scale, and the result.
  • Make your most recent role carry the requirements that matter most for this job.
  • Keep a separate resume variant for each kind of role you target, rather than one resume for everything.

Questions

What is an ATS score?
Applicant tracking systems (ATS) store and search applications. Recruiters filter them by the skills and terms in the job description, so a resume that never uses those terms is easy to miss. An ATS score estimates how well your resume covers what the posting asks for.
Is this checker free?
Yes. The keyword check is free and unlimited. The fit score, which judges each requirement against the evidence in your resume, is limited to a couple of checks a day per visitor. A free Matchlight account gives you 10 full evaluations a month.
Do you store my resume?
No. The checker does not save your resume or the job description. The text is sent only to the scoring models that grade it.
Can any tool tell me exactly what a company's ATS will do?
No. Every employer configures its own system and recruiters search in their own way. What you can control is whether your resume clearly shows evidence for each requirement, in the posting's own words. That is what this check measures.
How is the fit score different from keyword matching?
Keyword matching only checks whether a word appears. The fit score reads each must-have requirement and grades the evidence for it, from not mentioned to clearly demonstrated, then combines that with experience, seniority, domain and trajectory into green, yellow or red.
